Rechargeable portable lamps: charging, battery care and storage

Charging, battery care and storage for GUBI's rechargeable portable lamps: Multi-Lite Portable, Obello Portable, Seine Portable, Bagdad Portable, Hornbæk Portable and Pickup Lite.

Can I use a portable lamp while it charges?

Yes. The Multi-Lite Portable, Obello Portable, Seine Portable, Bagdad Portable and Hornbæk Portable can be used while they charge.

How do I make the battery last as long as possible?

The batteries keep their performance best between 20% and 80% charge, which is also the range where they charge fastest. Running the battery flat now and then is not a problem when the lamp is used regularly.

How long do the batteries last?

The batteries have a lifetime of at least 20,000 hours. How many charge cycles that gives depends on how the lamp is used and charged.

What happens if the battery runs completely flat?

If the lamp is used regularly, nothing. If a flat battery is left without charging for a long period, it can go into a deep-discharge state and permanently lose its ability to hold a charge.

How should I store a portable lamp I am not using?

Store it somewhere dry where the temperature does not fall below 10 °C, with the battery charged to between 40% and 60%. A battery that is not used slowly runs down, and the part charge keeps it from running completely flat while the lamp is put away.

Where do I find the charging and running times?

They differ from lamp to lamp and are in the instruction manual supplied with the lamp. For the Multi-Lite Portable, see Multi-Lite — common questions.

Can the battery be replaced?

Yes, on most portable lamps. The battery in the Seine Portable, Hornbæk Portable, Bagdad Portable, Pickup Lite and Multi-Lite Portable can be replaced with common tools. In the Obello Portable, the battery and the light source are one unit, so the light source is replaced as a whole. Our order team (order@gubi.com) confirms which parts GUBI can supply; they need the product name.

My portable lamp will not charge. What should I try?

If the lamp has a separate bulb, first check that it is fitted properly, and try another bulb if you have one. Then charge the lamp overnight with the charging cable supplied with it. If it still does not respond, submit a claim:
