GUBI can upholster selected products in your own material (COM) or leather (COL), subject to testing and approval. COM/COL is available for residential, hospitality, and contract projects.
Your three fabric paths
Which path applies depends on where your fabric comes from — not on the product you are ordering.
| Path | Testing fee | Sample sourcing |
|---|---|---|
| Recommended by GUBI | No COM/COL fee — pre-approved | Already in the GUBI assortment. Fastest path. |
| Non-Recommended, GUBI-Preferred Vendor | $120 | GUBI's production site sources the test sample directly from your vendor. |
| Standard COM/COL | $90 | You ship the test sample yourself. |
Step by step
- Submit your inquiry. Email order@gubi.com with the specific product, your textile or leather specification (including a link to the supplier), quantity, and project scope.
- Submit your test sample. Send a 100 cm × 100 cm sample. Ship DDP to the address GUBI confirms on your order paperwork — never to GUBI HQ. If patterned or requiring special handling, include written instructions with the sample.
- Testing and review. GUBI reviews compatibility, durability, and upholstery feasibility. Allow 5–7 business days from when the sample arrives at the factory. Once complete, you receive written Suitability Approval before ordering full yardage.
- Calculate consumption and place your PO. Use the Upholstery Consumption sheet (shared with your Order Confirmation) to calculate the full yardage required, then place your purchase order.
- Production and delivery. Production time runs from confirmed material arrival at the factory, not from the order date. You receive a confirmed ship date once production begins.
Shipping and labelling your fabric
- DDP only — for both test samples and full fabric orders. Confirm your supplier is shipping DDP before the roll leaves their dock. Wrong incoterms cause customs delays of 1–2 weeks.
- One fabric, one PO, one roll. Never consolidate multiple fabrics or purchase orders onto a single roll.
- GUBI sends a pre-filled label for each roll. You complete two fields: amount of fabric sent, and fabric supplier contact (name and phone). Your supplier attaches the label visibly to the outside of the roll.
- Send the carrier name and tracking number to order@gubi.com immediately after dispatch.
Your responsibilities
- Fire-code compliance is yours. GUBI upholstery is not interlined. Confirming your material meets the flammability requirements for its destination market (e.g. BS 5852, CAL 117) is your responsibility. If treatment is needed, arrange it yourself and send the fire certificate to the factory before production.
- Product warranty does not extend to COM/COL materials. GUBI accepts claims for manufacturing defects and upholstery craftsmanship issues, but not for natural textile characteristics, fabric wear, or improper textile specification.
- Surplus material and faulty material are not returned.
If your fabric fails testing
GUBI will explain why and, where possible, suggest an adjustment — a different backing, weight, or finish — that could pass. You are not charged again to retest the same submission.
